Doctor Who Day at Collector's Corner

After two successful sketch day appearances, last month and last week, I was invited to come back to Collector's Corner to do sketches for the customers on "Doctor Who Day". At least this time more than half of the requests had to do with the actual theme. We'll see how that holds true for "Marvel Day" at Barnes & Noble this weekend.

Heather with The Tenth Doctor

Heather shows off her cosplay!

Shawn with The Green Ranger

Jim with The War Doctor

Isaiah with Eleventh Doctor Accessories

Hayden with Mudkip, Samurott and Shiny Greninja

Jason with Sonic Ring and Sonic Screwdriver

Mike with Animated Series Mr. Freeze

Valentine with a Dalek

Andrew and Hiro with Thomas the Tank Engine

The Tenth Doctor and Amy Pond for Hayden

Gosei Red Marker Test

While taking these photos of The Doctor, my camera would ask "Did someone blink?" Haha. We all know The Doctor doesn't blink.

Batman Birthday at Barnes & Noble!

Like Collector's Corner last month, the Barnes & Noble in Saginaw hosted the Michigan Comics Collective to do sketches for the customers who came out for their Batman 75th Birthday Bash.

Judah with Star-Lord

Hamza with Batman
Neena with Sexy Catwoman

Simon with Nunchuck Chuck Norris.
Nunchucks without Chuck Norris are Non-Chucks!

Brooke with Golden Age Captain America

The Flash for Precious

Thomas with Wolverine

Batman for Jonah

Obviously this is an Elseworlds Batman who doesn't
hate rock and roll.

The event was so successful that we've been invited back to do sketches for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles premiere party next month. Tune in then, same Bat-Time, same Bat-Blog!

Ceiling Fan Fight

The other day I was watching the classic western film "The Treasure of the Sierra Madre"
I hadn't seen it since high school, but I'll never forget that scene were the three men fight in the bar.

During the brawl the camera cuts to a high angle shot just above the ceiling fan's rotating blades, serving as a metronome to set the pace of the action.

Except... t
hat scene isn't in the movie.

Seizing on this idea, I started developing some rough sketches looking down from above on a fight taking place in a private detective's office in the style of a pulp magazine or film noir.

It seems I'm either remembering the scene from somewhere else or the past ten years of memory has started to fade and gradually be replaced with my own interpretive imagination. You might say, its the stuff that dreams are made of.

Ballad for The Batman

I'd often wondered if Batman ever sings his own theme song while cruising around Gotham City. What would such a upbeat tune sound like in that raspy Dark Knight growl?

So yeah, thats where my mind has been. How's everyone else been doing with their summer?

Harry Birthday Dad!

Happy Independence Day to my fellow Americans!

I have further cause to celebrate as July 4th is also my Dad's birthday. Sure, it hasn't been that long since the last time I made him a card, but this I've been sitting on this gag for a few years now figured it was high time to bring it out.

I don't expect Dad, or many other people for that matter to get the reference despite the line's frequent roles in Hollywood parodies. It comes from the 1971 film "Dirty Harry" were Clint Eastwood solidified the "cop on the edge who doesn't play by the rules" subgenre, as seen here:

"Dirty Harry" happens to have been the first movie I watched after graduating from college. I listened to the audiobook of "Little Women" that same day. Good times.
