Pennywise the Dancing Caricature

Pennywise the Dancing Clown from It (2017).

Squintin' Quentin

Quentin Tarantino is inseparable from his camera.

Frozen: Arendelle Spring

Inspired by spring in Michigan.

(It would seem the cold doesn't bother Anna either.)

EDIT: One of the disadvantages to drawing digitally is that I'll often find myself leaping to render my idea as it first pops in my head, to jump on that idea while it's fresh and new instead of thinking through and sketching other possible interpretations. For example, this was the original drawing, that once finished, I realized, it wasn't really working.

Zootopia: Bunny Ears

NICK:
I thought you said "bunny ears" were an offensive gesture.

JUDY:
No, it's "two" because we're partners, and there's two of us!

EDIT: I just discovered this promo shot of Judy giving Nick bunny ears.
I would love to see what this full image looks like if anyone has an uncropped version.

Zootopia: New Uniform

Prior to his graduation, Nick poses in front of the mirror in a new uniform again, finally part of a pack. While alone he sheds a tear since he can't let them see they got to him... Even when they're the ones that love him the most.

Some days you just can't get rid of a bomb!

Can Ryan Reynold's latest superhero flick make up for his previous comic book flop? (Apparently yes).

MCC Weekly 16: You can be my wingman anytime!

MCC Weekly #16: Iceman from Top Gun

I considered drawing Val Kilmer and tiny Tom Cruise as Batman and Robin, but with their faces covered I didn't know if the joke would carry through.

Instead I opted to try another crack at caricature since that kind of exaggeration has been difficult for me. Fortunately I was able to learn something from my past attempts.

Sketch you later!

Terminator Thursday

Just looking to experiment with my markers and produce a card without drawing any outlines.

While I love these sketch events and enjoy drawing Disney and Marvel characters, I'm always hoping to get broader geek culture requests like the T-1000 here.

Tomorrow: Top Gun!

One Wonderful Value Study

Grayscale Study inspired by Akira Kurosowa's 1947 film "One Wonderful Sunday".

The original image reminded me of that scene in "Citizen Kane" were Mr. Bernstein recollects seeing a beautiful woman in a crowd. It just appeals to the hopeless romantic in me.

It was also a bit different for me, painting values rather than drawing outlines. I almost felt like Pascal Campion for a while there. I could really stand to do more of this.

MCC Weekly 13: DESTROYAH!

This week's challenge is the creature who killed the King of Monsters in 1995's Godzilla vs. Destroyah!

Special thanks to James Rolfe of Cinemassacre.com for bringing me up to speed on this guy.

What I did for The Spongebob Movie

Are you ready kids? I said are you ready?!

Well I've been ready for over a year now. Today is the premiere of The Spongebob Movie: Sponge Out of Water, which means I can finally show off what I did for this feature.

Sandy Squirrel on the bottom left of this T-Shirt was drawn by yours truly!

Buy it now at Hot Topic!

I was contacted by an art director at Nickelodeon who saw my previous squirrel illustrations and hired me for this project. We went through a number of different poses based on concept art from the film before settling on the final.

I still pinch myself that I got to do this. It was an incredible experience and I hope to have more opportunities like it in the future.

Go see the movie and buy lots of these T-Shirts! Do it now!

Geek Fallout: X-Men Movies (Part 2)

And remember my friends, future events such as these will effect you in the future!

MCC Weekly 7: Ash Splash

Who's Laughing Now?

Originally I was going to go for a more humorous set up involving Ash's possessed hand teaming up with Thing from The Addams Family, but instead I opted for a more rubbery representation of Bruce Campbell's face so that I could experiment with my new red paint pen and blend it with some grayscale markers to create a more realistic shade of blood.

In retrospect, if I was going to distort the face as much as did, a bright red poster paint blood probably would have worked better and come off as funnier.

Sketch ya' later!

Geek Fallout: 2014 Wrap-Up!

Geek Fallout: Top 5 Movie Monsters
Jason Roberts, Derek Ash and myself gab about our favorite ghouls!

Many of the monsters we talked about are ones that I got to draw for the Halloween Party at Barnes & Noble with the Michigan Comics Collective.

Flyboy from "Dawn of the Dead"

Maria from "Metropolis"

Michael Myers from "Halloween"

Olaf is a homunculi given life through supernatural powers.
He probably chills with Frankenstein's Monsters on the convention circuit.

Tarman from "Return of the Living Dead"

Trash from "Return of the Living Dead"

Were-Wolverine!

Captain America takes the cake as my most frequent request

Norris Head from "John Carpenter's The Thing"

Rough sketches including the two biggest "Michaels" in horror

Reinterpretations of scenes from classic horror movies
