Collector's Corner Sketch Day

On Wednesday, Collector's Corner, the local comics and game shop, hosted a Free Sketch Day for the patrons. Myself and other area artists drew various pop culture characters to promote the kickstarter campaign for the Michigan Comics Collective's new anthology book

Here are the sketches that I did for our visitors.

Thomas with Spider-Man

Paxton with Cyborg

Katie with Alice

Wayne with Rocket Raccoon

Larry with Carnage

Valentine with The Tenth Doctor
Liam with Daredevil

Erica with The Eleventh Doctor

Zac with the White Aquitian Ranger

Wayne with The Rev of Avenged Sevenfold

Raelina with herself as a princess

Kamina with a Lawn Gnome Wizard

It was a lot of fun to meet with people and draw for them even when there was the pressure to pick up the pace. We're planning to do this next month to celebrate the 75th Batman-iversary. You'd better believe I'll be there.

    1. My pleasure Andrew! I hope to do it again soon. I'm already doing some practice sketching for the MCC's 75th Batman-niversary event next month.

  3. I saw a few of these on Facebook. Totally dig both Daredevil and Cyborg, but everything really looks fantastic. Awesome work, Erik. I am, as usual, totally envious of your artistic skills.

    1. Thanks Brian. I had to draw Daredevil just as my reference providing phone battery died so I was certainly flying blind and operating on radar sense by then!

  4. Great work Erik. I love that you're able to illustrate in a variety of styles.

Talent, I need to get some of that.

    1. Thanks Chris! Though I don't know if its talent so much as performance pressure telling me that I have to finish. haha!

    1. Thanks Derek! I must be pretty powerful if I was able to knock your socks off while you were wearing those steel toed boots. I vow to use this power only for good!

  6. That's so awesome, and impressive. Def a lot of pressure to bang out all those different styles in such a short time. Must have been fun. And in the end, all those people get to bring home a kick ass gift, that will most likely hang on their wall and brag about. Very cool, Erik.

    1. Thanks! There was plenty of pressure, but it got my blood pumping with excitement! Not only did a dozen people walk away with my drawings but at least twice that many left with one of my business cards! I should have done this years ago.

  7. Wow, this looks like loads of fun to do. I bet the time just flew! I know you felt so fulfilled by this, a whole lot of instant gratification for you and them and no pressure to "perfect" something for a client. Givin people a smile with the gifts you've been given is where it's at! Very well done on all of these :)

    1. Thanks Laura. It was fun alright. The event lasted from five hours plus a dinner break for pizza (albeit a short one since the delivery place was right across the street) Time did indeed fly, I just want to know how I could feel tired after sitting down all that time.

It was relieving to not have to get so nitty-gritty with the details and to have such patient patrons. It was especially rewarding to see the little kids so pleased.
