Let it Snow!

It's December and time to welcome that seasonal snow!

Actually, this was supposed to be part of a series advent sketches, but I only made a handful before other projects swept in and took over. You'll likely see some of these other cards throughout the month.

Hey, Sean Connery, what's your favorite Oscar-winning Disney song?

MCC Weekly 18: Dick Tracy

The MCC Weekly Sketches resume, this time with comic strip detective Dick Tracy!
I drew strip's logo is my own style, while still holding to the character's iconic look.

MCC Weekly 17: Witchblade

MCC Weekly Sketch #17 Top Cow

This week's challenge was Top Cow comics characters. Witchblade, The Darkness, Cyber Force, Aphrodite IX, etc. My only exposure to any of those characters was Witchblade, specifically the Japanese anime adaptation, which I'm sure is 100% accurate to the source material and made no deviations whatsoever!

As a bonus, here's my original sketch for the project!

MCC Weekly 16: You can be my wingman anytime!

MCC Weekly #16: Iceman from Top Gun

I considered drawing Val Kilmer and tiny Tom Cruise as Batman and Robin, but with their faces covered I didn't know if the joke would carry through.

Instead I opted to try another crack at caricature since that kind of exaggeration has been difficult for me. Fortunately I was able to learn something from my past attempts.

Terminator Thursday

Just looking to experiment with my markers and produce a card without drawing any outlines.

While I love these sketch events and enjoy drawing Disney and Marvel characters, I'm always hoping to get broader geek culture requests like the T-1000 here.

Tomorrow: Top Gun!

MCC Weekly 15: Ryo of the Wildfire

MCC Weekly #15: Ronin Warriors

I choose to illustrate the protagonist of this anime series, Ryo Sanada, or Ryo of the Wildfire. I drew the star field in the background because I originally thought these guys operated in outer space, but it looked cool, so why not keep it?

MCC Weekly 13: DESTROYAH!

This week's challenge is the creature who killed the King of Monsters in 1995's Godzilla vs. Destroyah!

Special thanks to James Rolfe of Cinemassacre.com for bringing me up to speed on this guy.

Magic: The Gathering...Gathering (Day 1 of 2)

Collector's Corner invited me to do sketches at their big Magic: The Gathering tournament.

Here I am working while wearing the Spongebob Squarepants T-Shirt I helped design.
I've also surrounded myself with some of my previous sketches.
(Such as Caesar, Elsa, California Raisins, Edward Scissorhands and the Power Rangers)

I understand that on your world this is a symbol.
It means...Love.
Supergirl themed Valentine's Day card

The Great and Powerful Trixie!

The dad who requested asked if I did My Little Pony drawings.
I showed him the Rarity I did in November and explained that this wasn't my first rodeo.
Hey-O!

Goth Tinkerbell

Pop Funko version of Nicol Bolas

Goblin Raider

I'm going to be back at this again tomorrow, so sketch you then!

MCC Weekly 11: Death's End

MCC Weekly #11: Death from Neil Gaiman's Sandman

I thought it'd be funny given how death is the end, to have this Coppertone gag about Death's personification and her own end. All the more appropriate since she doesn't tan.

Stay tuned later today for the cards from the Collector's Corner sketch event.

MCC Weekly 10: Gizmoduck

Gizmoduck from Duck Tales. Getting some mileage out of that Eggshell color I bought for Elsa's hair on that dust cloud!

Tomorrow, I'll be doing free sketches at Collector's Corner in Midland, so stay tuned!

Edward Scissorhands on the Toilet

MCC Weekly Sketch #8: Edward Scissorhands. The situation itself was inspired from an episode of Seinfeld.

MCC Weekly 7: Ash Splash

Who's Laughing Now?

Originally I was going to go for a more humorous set up involving Ash's possessed hand teaming up with Thing from The Addams Family, but instead I opted for a more rubbery representation of Bruce Campbell's face so that I could experiment with my new red paint pen and blend it with some grayscale markers to create a more realistic shade of blood.

In retrospect, if I was going to distort the face as much as did, a bright red poster paint blood probably would have worked better and come off as funnier.

MCC Weekly 6: Sun Maid Parade

The Michigan Comics Collective Weekly Sketch is back! This week's theme was The California Raisins.

To shake things up I added the Sun Maid Raisin Girl into the mix, inspired by by the covers of Frank Cho's Liberty Meadows. Another shake up was the the raisins, which let me work with colors I rarely get to use like Mulberry and Rhodamine.

Secret Santa Sketches

One of the local elementary schools asked me to make some sketch cards for the kids as part of a Secret Santa exchange.

Hiro and Baymax

Groot and Rocket

Groot and Rocket

All those who chose to oppose his shield must YEILD!

First time I've drawn Anna.
Seriously I've gotten more requests for Sven than her!

Dave... or maybe Steve

Olaf

Rapunzel, another Disney first for me.

Wolverine as Michael Keaton's Batman!

Starfox and Wonder Man as Harold and Kumar.
This sketch is actually for the Michigan Comics Collective Secret Santa Exchange.

Now I want to hear from you! Which card is your favorite and who would you request for a secret Santa sketch?

Sketch ya' later!
