Princesses and Power Rangers

In preparation for Wednesday’s Sketch Day I did a few practice runs to make sure I could produce drawings in about ten minutes. I featured these sketches on my table so that people would see what kind of art I do as well as inspire their choices.

The Fourth and Eleventh Doctor were
originally going to be a part of my Sci-Fi Father's Day Card

Deadliest Predators: T-1000 and T-Rex!

I tried to lure in the family demographic with these doodles of the Power Rangers or Elsa and Olaf from “Frozen” (effectively finishing a project that I’d started back in January)

Strangely enough it was Dave Andres sitting right next to me who kept getting the Disney Princess requests. Maybe because I was the closest to the entrance he got the spill over from my line.

    1. What I didn't write down is time put into reference hunting in order to produce those sketches in "mere minutes". haha.

  3. Oh, Erik. Luring the kids with Olaf? ;)
You are a smart one! That movie is so popular right now with all the kids and I don't really see the appeal. Sarah admitted it was kind of boring the other day and I inwardly smiled.... This is a really cool gig, though! Sarah would go bonkers over this and we would probably spend hours there as she talked up all the artists. I hope she roots down in her artistic interests and grows. Do you have any childhood drawings you could share on here? Have I missed some in past posts?

    1. Well my table was situated next to a display of My Little Pony products so it seems I wasn't too far off by aiming for the family target. (I came so close to buying that "Derpy Hooves" vinyl figurine!)

Its funny you should give the cold shoulder to Frozen as I was just joking with a friend about how now that the movie is six months old, its starting to loose its criticproof shielding and its becoming cool not to like it.

I take it Sarah is interested in the arts? Neat. I remember when I was her age, I had my eyes glued to any book, magazine or video that showed pictures of professional cartoonist at work.

I've only had this blog since I finished college four years ago, so I don't have any "childhood" artwork up here. The oldest stuff I know I still have is a handful of pictures from high school. That might be something I could consider putting up if there was enough interest.

  4. So, was it a bit nerve-racking? Having people hovering over you as you sketch for them, all while under the gun?

    1. A little bit at first. By the time I got to the third card I had managed to get into the groove and pretty much lived on the rush after that.

On the plus side the customers couldn't be too critical since from their perspective I was working upside down.
