I Have A Headache!

This is another entry for WeLoveFine's Power Ranger's T-Shirt contest, playing on a double entendre with Rita Repulsa's catchphrase and the implications it could have on her marriage to Lord Zedd. While I sketched this out in traditional pencils, finished linework is completely digital, a first for me.

While I thought that this entry, since it didn't involve tracing a pre-existing logo, would be the jewel in the crown of my submissions. However, much like "I Got a Frog", I received an e-mail from WeLoveFine. We like your concept, however, since this cartoon is aimed for children, we cannot add your design into the contest.  Is it possible for you to rework it so that maybe Rita isn't lying down in a bed, but maybe sitting in her chair?  Once you rework the design, we'd be happy to enter it into the contest.”

While this sounds like a frustrating let down, after reading it I had a strange realization, “If its rejected before the contest… Then it can’t be a failure!” Yeah... just keep telling yourself that. Though it is subtly amusing to me that a gag about rejection is ultimately being rejected.

I've got a week before the deadline to submit something else, so I just have to decide if it's worth the effort to compose a new image from scratch. With that kind of time crunch though, I might just let it go and be thankful I didn't go with any gags about "Make my Monster Grow."

Equestria Nightly

Princess Celestia plays a little joke on Twilight to make her feel more comfortable about her first night away from home at Unicorn school.

I decided to draw this comic to see if I was still up to the task of drawing panel comics, since It'd been quite a while since I did them. I broke my embargo against fan art that I'd had going since college since the idea itself was original, as well as cute.

Within days this comic was posted up on Equestria Daily to be viewed by a wider auidence. Thanks Brony Community!

SleepCare Seasonal Serial Part 2: Santa Snooze

Uh-Oh! It seems Santa's sleep problems have become a disruption on day-to-day operations at the North Pole.

Seeing Santa sleeping on the job is no stranger to illustration.

Heres a famous example by Norman Rockwell:

And here's a less famous depiction from James Williamson (image courtesy of Today's Inspiration)

Aaa to Zzz

My latest illustration for sleepcare.com. This time illustrating the difference between zombies and sleepwalkers.

Originally I just wanted a side by side comparison with some bulletpoint text highlighting similarities and differences such how sleepwalkers act like their going through their daily routine which zombies return to familiar places based on loose memories. The main idea was to demolish the notion that sleepwalkers walk with their arms out strecthed, which they don't.

My editor latched on the idea of having a woman wake from a dream of being chased by a zombie, to see her husband sleepwalking. I don't know that this is the best exitcution of this idea, but I didn't intend on arguing with the guy who writes my checks, and I'd be lying if I said I didn't have fun with this one anyway.

I should hope the moral of the story is made obvious by the additional caption.
