The Game is Afoot!

Heres one of a handful of projects I did at the start of the month. The school were my mother teaches was celebrating National Literature Month and she asked if I would help put together some kind of decoration for her door to promote the event.

Since her room is close to the building entrance, I thought I would depict English Literature's greatest detective, Sherlock Holmes, investigating the start of a trail that would lead him to other doors that were likewise celebrating great works of fiction.

  1. That's awesome man. Nothing better than getting kids interested in reading.

    1. Amen to that. The library was a big part of my life growing up. I blame those celebrity "Read" posters we had as a kid.

    2. Ha! I did a post about those a while back. Some of them were real weird.

  2. That is very cool. I also like how you got the pipe past the anti-tobacco lobby. What job did you just get? Why aren't you doing more of this stuff.

    1. Haha. I didn't even consider the anti-tobacco angle, its just impossible to think of Holmes without the deerstalker get up and the big pipe. Plus holding it above his arm breaks up the silhouette.

The job I got was with Nickelodeon designing characters for "Spongebob Squarepants". I haven't talked about it a whole lot because the project I'm involved with is still a work in progress.

  3. Really love that you did this. I used to work at a grammar school about 11 years ago and one of my absolute passions there was doing things to get kids excited about learning. Punches of art and color to get their attention always worked great. Sherlock Holmes should be a fixture in schools.

    1. Thanks. You do strike me as a teacher type. Its always fun to think that things like this will liven up the school day a little and give the kids something fun to remember.

If you think this is something, you should have see the mural I painted for the American History class.
